All Eyes On Miami
Art Basel Miami Beach, the inauguration of the ICA Miami, and Miami’s design neighborhood
Art Basel Miami Beach unveiled its 16th chapter of contemporary and modern marvels to the great, good and guestlist-savvy of the present-day art world. Each year the emergence of younger galleries keeps the whole show on its toes as they compete for the attention of collectors with the old guard, such as Gagosian, Marian Goodman, and David Zwirner.
The inauguration of the ICA Miami in Miami’s design neighborhood was another curatorial anchor during Basel week. Designed by Madrid-based firm Aranguren & Gallegos, the three-story institute is a glass-and-steel monolith, naturally. As a free-admission museum, the ICA Miami seeks to “remove all barriers from viewing and experiencing contemporary art”.
Miami’s Design District, which came of age a while ago, was codified in a master plan of the award-winning planners Duany Plater-Zyberk.Embodying a singular dedication to the unity of design, fashion, art and architecture, the master plan aims to encourage a neighborhood comprised of creative experiences.
